BIBLIOGRAPHY OF PSEUDO-TRANSLATION OF NOVELS IN ROMANIAN POST-COMMUNISM (1990–2004)
(Abstract)
In this article, I present an overview of a relatively unexplored subgenre of post-communist Romanian fiction: fake translations. This subgenre emerged in the niche of genre literature and consists of novels written by Romanian authors that are packaged by publishers as translations of works by fictional Anglo-American writers. This phenomenon was typical of the first post-communist decade and continued briefly after 2000. The launch of a series of contemporary Romanian authors by Polirom Publishing in 2004 symbolically marked the end of this practice, signalling the return of domestic fiction as a prestigious product. This article also includes an inventory of the false translations in post-communist Romanian literature.
